Common questions

Which version should a national organisation use?

Use the National course as the common baseline, then add the state version wherever you have operations in Victoria, New South Wales or Western Australia. Compliance in those states is assessed against the state scheme, and the requirements are not identical.

Is a Working with Children Check enough?

No. A check screens an individual at a point in time. The Child Safe Standards and the National Principles require organisational systems: governance, a code of conduct, child-focused complaints handling, safe recruitment, staff training and review. Training is one of the named elements.

Who in our organisation needs this?

Everyone in contact with children, plus their managers, plus the board or committee that carries the governance obligation. Volunteers and contractors count. Leaving them out is a common and visible gap when a regulator looks.

How often should we run it?

Annually is the common practice, with induction training before any new person starts work involving children. Retrain when your policies change or after any incident, and keep the records.
