Work Health & Safety

14 courses

A PCBU must eliminate risks to health and safety so far as is reasonably practicable, and where that is not possible, minimise them. Officers have a separate due diligence duty they cannot delegate. Psychological harm counts. Training is one of the ways a duty holder shows the risk was identified, controlled and communicated to the people actually exposed to it.

Which one do you need?

Jurisdiction first. Work Health and Safety for Employees and for Managers are written for the harmonised jurisdictions (everywhere except Victoria). Occupational Health and Safety for Employees and for Managers cover the Victorian OHS Act. The Work/Occupational Health and Safety versions suit mixed workforces. Then Hungry Minds adds the hazard courses your work involves: Manual Handling, Fatigue Management, Fire Safety, Ladder Safety, Driver Safety, Asbestos and Silica Dust Safety, or Workplace Violence and Aggression.

Common questions

Which version do we need, WHS or OHS?

Victoria has not adopted the model WHS laws and runs its own Occupational Health and Safety Act, so Victorian workers take the OHS courses. Everywhere else takes the WHS courses. If your workforce spans both, the Work/Occupational Health and Safety versions cover the combined ground.

Are psychosocial hazards covered by safety law?

Yes. The model WHS Regulations require a PCBU to eliminate psychosocial risks so far as is reasonably practicable, or minimise them, and Safe Work Australia publishes a model code of practice on managing them. Psychosocial Hazards for Employees and Psychosocial Hazards for Managers and Leaders cover that duty.

Does online training satisfy our safety duty?

It covers the knowledge component. It does not cover supervision, plant-specific instruction, or competency for high risk work, which needs practical assessment. Use these courses for general induction and hazard awareness, then document the practical training separately.

What do managers need that employees do not?

Consultation, incident response, hazard reporting follow-through, and the officer due diligence duty. The manager versions of the WHS and OHS courses address those; the employee versions do not.
