Banking Code of Practice

Ensure your staff have a comprehensive understanding of the standards of practice and service within the Australian banking industry, particularly for member banks adhering to the Banking Code of Practice.

The short answer

Banking Code of Practice training is for everyone in scope, and it exists because of Banking Code of Practice. It runs online in about 20 to 30 minutes. Run it off the shelf as it is, or have Hungry Minds rebuild it around your own policies and scenarios.

Course details reviewed

About this course

The Banking Code of Practice sets out the standards of practice and service in the Australian Banking Industry for individual and small business customers and their guarantors.

The Code provides safeguards and protections not set out in the law, rather it complements the law and sets higher standards than legislation.

Safetrac’s ‘Banking Code of Practice’ course ensures that staff are trained on the information provided in the code. It is a condition of membership of the Australian Banking Association (ABA) that member banks with a retail presence in Australia sign up to the Code.

What the course covers

  • Introduction to the Code
  • Statement of Guiding Principles
  • How the Code works
  • Our customer’s banking relationship
  • Using our banking services
  • Inclusive and accessible banking
  • When a customer applies for a loan
  • Lending to a small business
  • Guaranteeing a loan
  • Managing the customer’s account
  • Customers experiencing financial difficulty
  • Resolving a customer’s complaint
  • Code monitoring, complaints and sanctions

What people can do afterwards

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • understand the standards of practice and service in the Australian banking industry for member banks
  • have comprehensive knowledge of the Code of Practice
  • understand the statement of guiding principles which provides an ethical, customer-oriented and sustainable framework
  • understand good decision-making when performing work and serving customers

How it is delivered

  • Accelerated learning Allows learners who understand the topic to proceed quickly through the course in 20-30 minutes.

Two ways to run it

  • Your policies, your scenarios

We rebuild “Banking Code of Practice” around how your organisation actually works, so the training changes behaviour instead of recording completions.

    Build a custom version
  • Ready to run as it is

Deploy the course off the shelf, with light branding if you want it. Delivered with our partner Safetrac, who will contact you directly.

    Deploy off the shelf

Either way, you can run it through our compliance platform or take it as a SCORM package for the LMS you already have.

What it costs

Off-the-shelf pricing starts at $4,000 a year for up to ten courses with your logo and colours applied, rising with how much you want changed. The tiers are the same across the catalogue, so they are set out once on the pricing page rather than repeated on all 101 courses.

If what you actually need is your own scenarios and your own policies rather than a reskin, that is a custom build, and it is the work Hungry Minds does.

Choosing an LMS

If you don’t currently have an LMS, we can help you select a platform that suits your organisation.

For smaller teams or organisations getting started, we typically recommend LearnWorlds for its ease of use and quick setup. For organisations requiring more advanced functionality and reporting, TalentLMS is a strong option.

We may receive a commission if you sign up to an LMS we recommend. It does not change what we recommend.
